where I live

Well this is sort of stalker-y. But I’ve moved about 13 different times (house wise), 4-5 different times (city-wise), and once (state-wise). I now reside in Houston of sunny Texas. Texas has so so so many cockroaches, but honestly I think I like TX more than CA. Although I do sort of miss the CA beaches. (AND NO FOR THE RECORD I HAVE NEVER SEEN A CELEBRITY. You have no idea how many people asked me this when I first moved here.)Library2

Oh, but let me tell you about the library in the city I lived in in California.

The library was about 3 stories tall, with two underground parking lots. It had a gift shop with these dolphin statues (I got one before I moved!) and in the back of the library they had huge life size statues of dolphins and shoots of water would burst forth. In the front there was another fountain with koi fish in it and next to it a book bench.
There were escalators, an elevator, and what we called the skyscraper room.

On the first floor was the kids’ section, the movies and DVDs, a cozy reading area, a newspaper reading area, and the gift shop. There was also a HUGE aquarium that had two baby sharks in it and, for a time an electric eel before it died. And a whole buttload of tropical fish. The entrance to the kids’ section looked like stacked books:

That little window/video screen? In the entrance there was a green screen. Inside the kids’ section was a life size replica of a T-rex skeleton, a huge fake tree, and a mini lighthouse. The ceiling had fake constellations and would change according to the time of day.1

There was a 1.5 floor with ONLY YA. The entire floor was dedicated to YA books.

The 2nd floor was half filled with computers (like 15 rows of them) and the adult books.

Guys people would get MARRIED at this library and I grew up in this library. You have no idea how stunned I was when I realized that not all libraries were this extravagant.

l

P.S: There was also a statue garden.

  1. You are totally right about not all libraries being this extravagant. The one where I live (also in CA) looks nothing like this one. It’s only two stories and it doesn’t have a gift shop. Just a little café outside. I wish I lived near this one though. I would be there everyday, all day :D

  2. Wow! I am actually so jealous of this…. And I thought that my local library was good, but all it has in the YA section is about two rows of shelves (and they aren’t very big shelves).

Great post! It’s made me curious about other bloggers libraries…
